Renato Bonajuto was born in Novara in 1979, he began his career in opera as a director's assistant to Beppe De Tomasi in many prestigious theatres and with the most important singers of the
In 2004 he began Luciano Pavarotti’s assistant for the production La Bohéme by Giacomo Puccini at the Teatro La Fortuna in Fano. He has been directeing more than 100 opera productions, 45 of them were debuts, including Il matrimonio segreto by Domenico Cimarosa and La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi staged at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Gioachino Rossini staged at the Teatro Coccia in Novara, Carmen by Georges Bizet at the Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, La Sonnambula by Vincenzo Bellini and Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi at the Teatro Civico in Vercelli, Aida at San Siro Stadium in Milan, Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo in Ascoli Piceno.
From 2009 he is one of the guest director at summer Festivals in Florence (Opera Festival), Massa Marittima (Lirica in piazza), Sarzana (Spiros Angiris).
Usually he takes part as a member of the jury in International Opera Singing Competition and he held masterclass at Conservatory of Music in Potenza and Darfo Boario Terme, Cantiere Lirico in Livorno, Opera studio LTL (Theatre Circuit of Tuscany). He prepared the finalists of the competitions including ‘’Spiros Argiris’’ in Sarzana, ‘’Ritorna Vincitor’’ in Ercolano, ‘’Gianluca Ricci’’ in Cattolica and ‘’Magda Olivero’’ in Milan.
In 2006 he curated and organised the exhibition ‘’Mafalda Favero, una donna, una voce’’ in Asti.
He is working with Pippo Baudo to promoting opera in the television media as in the Rai 1’s tv programs ‘’Tribute – Serata d’onore’’ (2009) and ‘’Tour de chant’’ of Domenica-In (2010).
He also collaborated with Renato Bruson, directing his performance of Verdi’s Falstaff in 2012.
In 2013 he directed Der Schauspieldirektor by Mozart and Prima la musica e poi le parole by Salieri at the Opera di Stato in Istanbul, he made the Teatro Verdi’s opening of the Season with a production of Verdi’s La forza del destino in Pisa and Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Ventidio Basso in Ascoli Piceno.
In 2014 he directed many productions including Natalia Valli’s Pinocchio at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa (in collaboration with Festival Puccini in Torre del lago), Tosca by Giacomo Puccini at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno, Il Barbiere di Siviglia for the Ente Musicale Trapanese, La Traviata at the Teatro Sociale in Mantova and Madama Butterfly at Teatro Bonci in Cesena.
In 2015 he staged Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot and Turandot by Giacomo Puccini for the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, La voix humaine by Francis Poulenc with Tiziana Fabbricini for the Festival Orizzonti in Chiusi.
He directed the Teatro Goldoni’s opening of the Season with La traviata in Livorno and he directed Giacomo Tritto’s Il convitato di pietra at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa.
In 2016 for the opening of the new theatre Il Maggiore in Verbania, he created a new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. In the same year, he directed La Bohéme by Puccini in Rome with Angela Gheorgiu, Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon for the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Francis Poulenc’s La voix humaine, Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff and Maurice Ravel’s L’Heure espagnole.
In 2017 Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Coccia in Novara, Poulenc's La voix humaine at the Luglio Musicale Trapanese, Gianni Schicchi at Festival Tones on theStones, Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro Cilea of Reggio Calabria, Carmen atTang Xianzu Drama Festival of Fuzhou.
The 2018 sees him engaged with the Vedova Allegra at the foundations Teatro Luciano Pavarotti in Modena, Teatro Coccia in Novara, Opera Giocosa ofSavona and Teatro Nuovo di Verbania. Also withCarmen at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina, Falstaff at the Istanbul StateOpera, Madama Butterfly at Teatro Cilea at Teatro Cilea of Reggio Calabria andCosì fan tutte at Teatro Cilea of Reggio Calabria.
From 2012 holds the position of artisticSecretary/casting manager of the Teatro Coccia in Novara.
